Biography:

A Japanese folk duo, Kobukuro -- named after the first two syllables in each member's surname, i.e., Kentaro Kobuchi (guitar and vocals) and Shunsuke Kuroda (vocals) -- got together in 1995 and released their first album, Saturday 8 PM, independently in 1999. Their next two full-lengths, 2000's Answer and 2001's Root of My Mind, were popular enough to attract the attention of the major labels, and the duo signed a deal in 2001. Their major-league debut, Roadmade, was released in 2001, and was a chart success. Hit singles followed, and many of their songs have appeared in other places, including television shows and commercials.
